January 24, 2026 – The USS Turner Joy (DD‑951), a Forrest Sherman–class destroyer, served from 1959 to 1982 and became famous for her role in the Gulf of Tonkin incident, a key event that escalated U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. After decommissioning, she was donated on April 10, 1991, to the Bremerton Historic Ships Association and permanently berthed on the Bremerton waterfront, where she is currently open as a public museum ship. It remains one of the most significant naval attractions in the Pacific Northwest and a major historical asset for the Bremerton waterfront.
