May 10, 2025 – Heronswood Garden, owned and operated by the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, comprises 15 acres in Kitsap County. Heronswood protects a vast array of plants from around the world, with over 8,000 different varieties spread across six distinct gardens.
Walk through a re-creation of an abandoned logging camp containing over 250 different types of ferns and other shade-loving plants. Find yourself in rock gardens showcasing plants which grow at higher elevations. Stroll shady glades. Explore a garden that demonstrates the significance of native plants to the tribe, featuring a coniferous woodland filled with edible berries and cedar bark, a seasonal pond providing cat-tail and sweet-grass for weaving, plus a camas prairie for
harvesting edible bulbs. Enjoy more formal European garden designs and another garden that showcases exotic and rare plants from around the world.
